ROUTING SWITCHING ENGINEER

The Routing and Switching Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting the organization’s network infrastructure. This includes LAN/WAN connectivity, routing, switching, and network performance optimization. The role ensures secure, reliable, and high-performance network communication across data centers, offices, and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, configure, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and related hardware.
• Manage and optimize LAN, WAN, and WLAN networks to ensure high availability and minimal downtime.
• Implement and manage routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP) and switching technologies (VLANs, STP, EtherChannel).
• Monitor network performance using tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, or Nagios, and resolve bottlenecks or outages.
• Conduct network capacity planning and ensure scalability to meet business needs.
• Troubleshoot complex routing and switching issues across different network layers.
• Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and documentation.
• Implement and enforce network security controls, including ACLs, port security, and segmentation.
• Collaborate with other IT teams (security, cloud, systems) for integrated infrastructure solutions.
• Participate in network upgrades, migrations, and new site deployments.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in enterprise network engineering or administration.
• Strong knowledge of Cisco or Juniper routing and switching platforms.
• Hands-on experience with routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) and Layer 2 technologies (VLANs, STP, VTP).
• Familiarity with IPv4/IPv6 addressing, subnetting, and NAT.
• Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, NetFlow, SNMP).
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and QoS concepts.
• Good knowledge of network security fundamentals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications: CCNA, CCNP (Routing & Switching / Enterprise), JNCIA, or JNCIS.
• Experience with SD-WAN, VPN, and wireless controller-based networks.
• Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Familiarity with automation/scripting (Python, Ansible).
• Experience with VoIP, MPLS, or data center networking.
