The Assistant Steward is responsible for supporting the restaurant service team in delivering excellent guest service by maintaining cleanliness, preparing service areas, assisting in food and beverage service, and ensuring smooth restaurant operations during service hours. The role focuses on maintaining hygiene, table setup, and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
1. Guest Service
Greet guests courteously and assist them with seating when required.
Present menus and provide basic information about menu items.
Serve water, beverages, and food as instructed by the Captain or Steward.
Ensure prompt and efficient service to enhance guest experience.
2. Table Setup & Restaurant Preparation
Perform mise-en-place before service (cutlery, crockery, napkins, condiments).
Set up and arrange tables according to restaurant standards.
Ensure all service stations are properly stocked and organized.
3. Cleanliness & Hygiene
Maintain the cleanliness of the dining area, service stations, and equipment
Clear used plates, glasses, and cutlery from tables promptly.
Ensure proper sanitation and hygiene standards in compliance with restaurant SOPs.
4. Coordination with Kitchen & Service Team
Coordinate with kitchen staff for timely pickup and service of food.
Assist senior stewards, captains, and supervisors during busy service hours.
Communicate guest requests and feedback to the service team.
5. Inventory & Equipment Handling
Ensure proper handling of crockery, glassware, and cutlery.
Report breakage, shortages, or maintenance issues to the supervisor.
Assist in maintaining stock of service items and supplies.
6. Compliance & Grooming
Maintain professional grooming and uniform standards.
Follow restaurant policies, hygiene guidelines, and safety procedures.
Attend daily briefings and training sessions.
